Brown Pastures

You just have to laugh at our weather.  Either that or you end up shreaking. Saturday morning is was 22 degrees.  That meant long johns, wool socks, leather gloves, qiviut hat, down coat.  It was cold.  It was almost balmy the following morning at 26 degrees.  I remembered why I bought the thinsulite lined gloves so wore those rather than the leather ones which are usually plenty warm enough but not when the temperatures are in the 20's.  The rest of the garb was the same - down coat, wool socks, etc.  It was a glorious day on Sunday for our Roc Day get together with full sun and warming up into the 50's.  We sat with the back door of...

A Good Workout

I never created the habit of going to the gym.  At times I have run, walked and swum but none of those included going to the gym and none of them ever became habits over time.  The best thing I have done recently is to stop using the Kawasaki mule to get around our property.  I use it to carry bales of hay out to the pastures and occationally to ferry heavy items to the house or to my car but not as I did when we first moved out here, to work my way around the property feeding the animals every day.  These days, and for the last several years, I walk everywhere.  I walk into and through the...

Brrrrr......

The cold front came through last night and dropped the temperatures down close to freezing.  I realize this is nothing compared to the horrendously cold temps happening right now across the northern and midwestern parts of this country.  We never get down to wind chills of 40 below with gale force winds and lots of snow.  A little ice on the roads is enough to stop everything down here and it doesn't happen often enough for people to learn how to cope with it.  Not to mention we don't have any snow plows close to us - Dallas is just under 300 miles, Lubbock is about 500 miles and Amarillo is 600 miles away.  At this point I'm sure all...
