A sley hook is an important weaving tool.  It's what you use to thread the warp though the reed - that's called sleying the reed.  They are most frequently brass and sometimes have slightly different hooks at either end. These hooks are thin enough to slip easily into the reed dents and have a secure hook so you can grab the warp thread with assurance it will still be in the hook when it's pulled through the reed.

Our hooks are solid brass and fit beautifully in the hand.  Made by Schacht Spindle Company, this hook is 1" wide and about 4.25" long.  It has a hook at either end so however you grab it you are ready to go.  It also has a hole in it so you can add a loop of yarn and know it will always be there on your wrist.
