Social Distancing
I have washed my hands so often that doing it frequently and for at least 20 seconds is becoming a habit. As has thinking very carefully about where I'm going and what exactly I'll be doing if I get in my car and drive somewhere. Most stores are open but paying attention and planning make the most sense.
We are not on lock down in Texas as a whole, or in Colorado County specifically. There are no cases of Covid-19 in the county as of now. On the one hand that is totally wonderful. On the other hand, I know of no general testing going on here. We do have a hospital and I assume anyone who presents with Covid-19 symptoms would be tested. As best I can tell, we all feel pretty darned safe and virtuous. While that eases tensions and reduces our stress level, it's not a good thing to be careless right now. I am very careful to wash my hands. I try really hard not to touch my face. And I'm keeping my distance from pretty much everyone except my animals and my husband.
My first big social distancing project has been the studio. I have been working hard on it over a couple of weeks. Washing, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning out. It's the first really deep clean I've done out here in a while. The place looks great and it smells great. I've gotten rid of lots of odd things that have been accumulating. I would love for all of you to stop by but we will wait on that for at least another few weeks.
I don't know what you are doing while keeping your distance from everyone but here are a few things I'm doing.
I cleaned up the studio!
I'm taking walks around the property. I guess I could call this walking the dog but Sadie pretty much goes where she wants. According to my husband's calculations, it's a half mile if I walk around the inside perimeter of the place - that's not opening any gates but following the pasture fences. It's a mile if I walk around the outside perimeter - that's opening gates and walking along the property fence line. At this point, half a mile works for me.
I'm curry combing our pony, Steele. He is starting to shed and loves the scratching he gets with a curry comb.
I'm weaving. I have two looms going. This one is linen face cloths, the one in the background has linen bath towels. I really want to get both of them finished!
I'm spinning on my new spinning wheel. More about that later this week.
I'm knitting. Currently its Shetland Fair Isle hats. They are quick and easy and it's fun to watch the pattern develop. I'm working on my third. I don't really need that many hats. I will probably put a price on them at some point.
I'm happy to report that so far all my family and friends are well. I hope all of you are, too! Stay safe. Wash your hands. Keep your distance. Keep busy.
