Sometime on Sunday afternoon between my ride around the property after lunch and my husband feeding the pony about 5 pm, the agave flower spike broke and fell. The break point was about halfway up the spike. Well, rats. I was hoping to see the flowers go all the way to stunning.
According to Ron and my brother Craig who went out to take pictures for me, the flowers are just starting to open and covered in bees. I don't know what is likely to happen next. Will the flowers continue to bloom for a while? I hope so.
Somehow if I must lose my lovely agave to the flowering process, I would like to see it all the way to full open blossoms. But in the this case, Mother Nature seems to have something else in mind.
I'll let you know what happens next.
