Knit 1 Oxford

Knit 1 Oxford is one of our most favorite yarn shops.  It is everything a knit shop should be.  They carry a wonderful selection of yarns from lovely and functional to luxuriously extravagant.  It is a welcoming respite of calm staffed with knowledgeable people who can help with any knitting, crochet or planning problem.  It's true that Knit 1 carries some of our hand spun and hand dyed yarn and some of our finished goods like triangle shawls but that doesn't make what I've said any less true.  Oh, yes, and it's owned by Patsy Engelhard who I've known since the second grade.  Literally.

Last Saturday we made the long drive from Cat Spring, TX to Oxford, MS to teach a two day weaving class using Schacht's new 15" Cricket looms.  Saturday afternoon was Knit 1"s Fashion Show celebrating it's second anniversary.  We couldn't get there in time to see all the wonderful scarves and lace shawls and sweaters that the loyal customers had created but I'm sure it was wonderful.  It certainly was last year.

Our class consisted of six interested and interesting women who all created very different but equally imaginative and creative weavings.  The plan was to make table runners but who really wants to be held to plan?  So we had table runners and towels and scarves.   It was great.  Some leaned towards cotton and linen, others towards wool and wool blends.  We had wild colors and calm colors.

We had metallic sparkles and soft tweads.

We had boucles and shiny polyester.

Everything that was woven was wonderful.

I think everyone had a good time and was pleased with what they made.

The two day class format gives everyone time to go through the whole process from warping the loom to finishing up the weaving.  We thank everyone who came and joined in the fun of the class and Patsy who opened her shop for us and did her usual fantastic job of making us feel welcome and enjoyed.  We certainly enjoyed our visit like we always do.
