Silk comes in a variety of preparations but silk hankies are my favorite. Each cocoon is boiled to remove the ceracin (the sticky stuff that binds the fibers together) and it is stretched over a frame in the shape of a hankie. We buy them white and dye them. The silk takes the dye beautifully and the finished product is great to spin. Actually, the hankies can be separated and drafted into a long thin shape and then knitted or crocheted or woven without being spun at all.
Our hankies are 1/2 ounce each and come in a wide array of colors. Let us know when you order what your favorite colors are and we will choose just the right silk hankie to let you spin happy. Our hankies come with directions so there's no need for prior experience.
