Happy Days Faux Ikat Scarf
Ikat is a complex weave structure that requires careful dying of the warp and/or weft yarn and careful weaving to create lovely pictures of birds or clouds or pretty much anything you want. It is known from various cultures all over the world.
This scarf is a faux ikat. Taking variegated yarn for the warp, adjusting for the length of the color repeats and using a thinner weft yarn in a color coordinated with the warp creates a similar look. No, we can't create little bird figures but the process is significantly easier and quicker than the actual ikat process and can easily be accomplished on a rigid heddle loom.
